Modern Toys – Sonicon Rocket

This relatively big spaceship is not only looking great but it has a very special feature: it reacts on sound. Let me quote the instruction manual to explain the operation of this wonderful spaceship:

OPERATION: Turn the switch to the on position and the vehicle will start to move. Then blow the whistle and the antenna will turn around and the vehicle will turn in its aimed direction. So long as the whistle note is sounded the antenna turns around. When the antenna is aimed in the desired direction, stop blowing so that the vehicle will run in the same direction until you blow the whistle again. By timing of blowing of the whistle, the operator can control the movement of the vehicle at will in the limited area, avoiding obstacle which might come in its way…Awesome or not 🙂

Sonicon Rocket works by the theory of resonance. A thin metal resonance disc is obtained in the mechanism and when you blow the whistle, vibrations are set up in the resonator and by those vibrations contact needle dances on and breaking of this contact changes the direction of the vehicle.

To build this technique nowadays will not be hard to make with the use of microchips but in the early 1960`s it took the Japanese toymakers a rocket filled with “hightech electronics”. Maybe that is why Sonicon rocket is that BIG 🙂

This Sonicon Rocket comes with its original box and instruction manual. The blue antenna radar dish is a reproduction. The little box and the whistle are missing. The Rocket itself looks unplayed with old stock. When I inserted batteries the rocket lights up and moves around in circles but does not respond to whistling sound and i think that this is exactly the reason why this rocket survived in this wonderful condition.

The condition of the rocket is near mint to mint, absolutely no flaws to mention and a tiny scratch from being stored away is keeping this toy from being graded as mint. The original box is excellent to near mint as well and has a tiny puncture in the toplid and some shelf wear but also the box is a fantastic example and together with the rocket… wow… best i have ever seen so far, hard to upgrade sonicon rocket.

Sonicon Rocket is scarce and desirable and very hard to find in this condition and although its missing the whistle ( reproductions exist by the way ) its a hard to upgrade toy in fantastic condition.
